Privacy Policy
Last updated: 2025-08-30
FocusTime: Tab Timer & Blocker ("FocusTime", "we", "our") is designed with privacy first. We do not collect or transmit your personal data to our servers. All core features run locally in your browser.
What data we process
- Per-tab timing data: seconds used per tab/site to power timers and daily totals. Stored locally.
- Block lists and focus settings: domains, keywords, focus mode configuration, usage limits. Stored locally.
- UI state: minor preferences (e.g., toggles) to improve your experience. Stored locally.
What we do NOT collect
- No accounts, emails, or identifiers.
- No browsing history is sent to any server.
- No analytics, no trackers, no third‑party beacons.
- No advertising IDs or profiling.
Where data is stored
- Browser Storage: Chrome
chrome.storage.local
(and optionallychrome.storage.sync
if enabled by you) is used to persist timers, block lists, and settings. - On‑device only: Data stays on your device unless you explicitly export it.
Permissions we use
- tabs/activeTab: To detect the active tab for accurate per‑tab timing.
- scripting: To inject lightweight content scripts for overlays (focus/block pages) and pause timers on blocked tabs.
- declarativeNetRequest (if applicable): To enforce block rules efficiently without sending data externally.
- storage: To save your settings and timing data locally.
Network requests
FocusTime functions offline. It does not send your timing, block lists, or browsing information to any remote server. Any external links you open (e.g., documentation, Chrome Web Store) are user‑initiated navigations.
Cookies and local data
We do not set cookies. Data is stored using extension storage APIs as described above.
Data retention and deletion
- Retention: Data is retained locally until you remove it or uninstall the extension.
- Deletion: You can reset data via the extension’s options, or remove the extension to delete all associated data from your browser.
User control
- Enable/disable features like Focus Mode, site/keyword blocking, and usage limits at any time.
- Edit or clear your block lists and keywords from the popup/options UI.
- Pause timers on demand by switching tabs or using built‑in controls.
Children’s privacy
FocusTime is not directed to children under 13. If you believe a child provided data to us (which we do not collect by design), please uninstall the extension from the device.
Changes to this policy
We may update this page to reflect product improvements. Material changes will be summarized at the top with an updated date.
